LDAT Community Programs

WWAI has a long history of working to prevent harmful alcohol consumption in the Indian community in Victoria with the support of The Alcohol and Drug Foundation (adf).

Connecting Diversity Alcohol Harm Reduction Program(2017 to 2019)

Funded by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation (2017 to 2019), This project commenced with in-depth research on the drivers and alcohol drinking habits of Indian origin people in Victoria through focus groups and interviews. Thereafter actions to address the issue included community engagement workshops, large scale awareness raising events reaching over 1300 people, production of 3 co-designed alcohol awareness videos (available in 5 Indian languages), production of a resource guide on Multicultural Community Engagement for preventing alcohol harms.

Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) Programs

WWAI successfully implemented 2 LDAT projects – the Western LDAT (WAAT) and South East Action Team (SEAT), in 2019- 2020. These evidence-informed, preventative, community-led programs are a collaboration of 10 partners, led by WWAI, that co-designed and implemented Community Action Plans tailored to the local area needs. Partners included Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS) and Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC). Our community partners were Club 60 Seniors group, Brothers and Sisters Foundation, SEWA, Indian Senior Citizen Association of Casey (ISCAC), Wyndham Social Cricket League and Bellfield Cricket Club.
