Family Violence Services

WWAI is committed to addressing the issue of family violence in the Indian communities in Victoria through prevention, early intervention, awareness-raising and education activities with funding received from the Victorian Government.

Family Violence Prevention program:-  to ensure Family Violence and Gender Inequality are not tolerated and adequately responded to in the Indian community in Victoria.

Project Ujala This Multicultural COVID-19 Family Violence program delivers family violence awareness raising and early intervention activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Supported by Family Safety Victoria; Department of Premier and Cabinet (Office for Women and Multicultural Affairs)

Other projects:
  • Enhanced Pathways to Family Violence Work project prepares students for a career in the family violence field. Supported by Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Elder abuse awareness online sessions with Punjabi seniors in the Western suburbs through Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria.
  • Involvement in family violence research:
  • HARMONY study trial by La Trobe University of general practice intervention to prevent and reduce domestic violence among South Asian communities.
  • OPERA research project on ageism and discrimination by Eastern Community Legal Centre and Swinburne University.
  • The MuSeS study to inform support strategies for immigrant women and children experiencing family violence by university researchers and MCWH.
